Panel 1: The title of this three panel cartoon by Henriot is roughly translated as "Allah be praised" or "glorified." The protagonist here is a modern (c. 1915) Turk or Ottoman. The three panels recount the battles of his ancestors and cover more than four centuries of Ottoman Empire history, beginning with the crusades on the walls ofthe city of Jerusalem; his Ottoman/Turkish ancestor dies murmuring the words "Allah be praised;" and again, when another ancestor dies at the hands of the Poles, his last breath is "Allah be praised." When a Hungarian soldier kills another forebearer, he says "God is great and Mohamed is his prophet."
